Histories are books that go through the history of a nation and a time period and explain events from an historical perspective as opposed to a theological perspective. These books do not cover daily life or culture, but cover important dates, rulers, and wars.
There are histories of Israel, histories of the ancient near east, and histories of individual nations, e.g. Mesopotamia.
