Life Pacific University Alumni Library: Services

Printing

A copy machine, located on the first floor, is available for patron use. Copies are 10 cents per page/side in Black and White, 25 cents per page/side in color. Money can be added to your account (card) at the circulation desk and online (date and website TBA). The machine is also capable of scanning images to a USB flash drive.

Above the copy machine is a brief overview of U.S. copyright law. Library patrons should be aware that they are solely responsible for the photocopying of copyrighted materials.

Printing/copying from within the Library
Two options:
1 - put document on a USB flash drive and insert it into the printer. OR
2 - print from a library computer.

Patron must go to printer to release job with username and password or with ID card and password.

Printing from outside the Library
PaperCut, a web based print server, is how patrons log in to print. Patrons may send a job to the printer from anywhere on campus, but must log in to the printer to actually print the project.
1 - go to the website, http://lpcad02:9191/user, enter your username and password (from somewhere on campus),
2 - select one of two printers (one in the Library and the other in G dorm),
3 - select file and upload.

Patron must go to printer to release job with username and password or with ID card and password.

LibGuides

The library has created guides to help students with resources for their course assignments.  Each guide contains an assignment page providing help for specific assignments in the course, a sources page suggesting relevant sources and how to use them, and a citation page with guides on how to properly cite materials. Interlibrary Loan

Administration, faculty, staff, and students of LPU Library in need of a book or other material not owned by the Library may request that the Library staff transact an ILL loan on his/her behalf. When such a request is made, the Library staff will undertake to locate a cooperating library which has the material, make contact, and request that the material be sent to us by mail or digitally when applicable. The library will not perform ILL requests for alumni, Foursquare pastors, institutional members, outside patrons, or patrons with suspended privileges (see Library Fine(s) Policies).

The Library will not fulfill ILL Book requests for Non-Traditional students (DCP, MASL, ELN, etc.) because of the inability to both fulfill, and return materials in a manner that fits within the time constraints of accelerated programs. The library will however, fulfill requests for students enrolled in Non-traditional programs who live within the surrounding area of the university and are capable of physically picking up and returning material at the LPU campus.

In most instances, the library can receive materials from lending libraries at no charge. In the event that an item is only available for a fee, the Library will pay all applicable service fees charged by lending libraries, as well as return postage depending upon the following criteria:

  • The library will not fulfill undergraduate student ILL requests which require an ILL fee.
  • The library will pay ILL fees for material related to faculty and departmental research.
  • The library caps the amount paid for an individual ILL item at $20. If a patron still desires the item, the patron is responsible to pay any cost exceeding the $20 cap.
  • The library caps the total yearly ILL expenditures per eligible patron (see criteria above) at $100 for full-time faculty, and $50 for adjunct faculty, administration, graduate students, and staff. The patron is responsible for all fees exceeding their yearly cap.
  • The patron becomes responsible for any late fees incurred due to turning in ILL material past its given due date, and for replacement costs if the material is lost or damaged.
  • The LPU Library will not fulfill patron requests for materials owned by LPU, except when the item has been marked as "Lost" or "Out for repair," and an additional copy of the item is not owned by the library.
  • The library will not fulfill requests for materials that are required reading/viewing in course outlines.

Approval of all ILL requests requiring a fee is dependent upon sufficient funds in the library budget. The money allotted to ILL, and the amount designated for caps may be adjusted annually to reflect budgetary concerns of the library and best practices within the industry.

Homework Turn-In

Students may turn homework into the library.  They must hand their homework assignment to the library worker at the front desk and let them know that they are turning in a homework assignment. The Library worker will ask students a couple questions. A homework assignment receipt will be sent to the student's LPU email. The library worker stamps the homework assignment with the date. This assignment is then taken directly to the faculty boxes.

Exam Proctorinig

The library will proctor make-up exams for students. Make-up exams must be requested by faculty members and cannot be requested by a student. In order to take an exam in the library, a $2.00 fee must be paid. Faculty must fill out the Make-Up Exam Form. Finals may only be taken in the library if the faculty have received approval from the Academics Office. Once a Final is approved to be taken in the library, an appointment must be set up by the student by emailing library@lifepacific.edu. A student cannot take a Final exam without approval from Academics or without a Library appointment.

ID Cards

A college-issued ID card is required for all members of the college community in various areas of campus life, as well as for members of the surrounding community who wish to obtain Library checkout privileges. The Library makes and distributes original ID cards to all students, staff, faculty, alumni, and Foursquare pastors free of charge; replacement cards cost $15.00. You may either come into the library for an ID or request one through our ID Card Request Form. Please Note: if you are requesting a replacement ID Card, it is a $15.00 replacement fee and you will be asked to provide a credit//debit card. We will ship the ID card to you.

Also Available

The Library has 9 desktop computers for students to use (available on a first come first served basis). There is a printer that students may use in the library for $.25 a page.

We just purchased a document camera for use by faculty. If any faculty are interested in checking out the document camera, come by and ask at the circulation desk.

Requesting Instruction - *Faculty Only*

If you would like to have a librarian do some research instruction, please contact the Library by using the form found here. We can accommodate most requests in the library, but can come to your classroom if desired. In your communication please tell us: when you would like the instruction, where you would like the instruction, and what you want covered. We can tailor our instruction to a specific paper or topic, but it takes us time to develop our talk. If you can send us the instructions for your assignment then we can be very specific in our instruction.

Typical instruction topics are: how to do research (ideas to reference materials to basic searching), how to search using the catalog and databases, and how and why of citing sources (MLA, APA, or SBL).

Reserving the "Library Presentation Room" - *Faculty Only*

If you would like to reserve the Library Presentation Room for instruction, please contact the Library by using  the form found here.  If the room is available we will let you know, add it to our calendar, and place signage on the day the room is reserved.

The room is equipped with a projector and can be connected to a laptop or DVD player.

The room has tables and chairs arranged for group study when it is not being used for a class. If you would like the room arranged a specific way, please let us know in advance. We try to put the tables and chairs in rows for instruction.
