1st President of the United States (1789–97). General of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. A surveyor by trade, Washington became the first American military hero by leading American forces to victory over the British Army.

3rd President of the United States (1801–9). Served as Vice President and Secretary of State under Washington, governor of Virginia during the American Revolution, and member of the Continental Congress. American statesman, political philosopher and author of the Declaration of Independence.
16th President of the United States (1861–65) and President during the Civil War. Author of the Emancipation Proclamation, the executive order abolishing slavery in America, who also passed the thirteenth amendment making slavery illegal. Assassinated in 1865 by Southern sympathizer John Wilkes Booth.
