CHURCH HISTORY: Pre-Reformation

Background

Hi105 Western Civilization to 1500 (3)

A study of the social, economic, and political contributions of the ancient people of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, and the contributions of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to Western culture. Study will include the development of the Christian Church before the Reformation.

By adding "sources" (as a subject) or "critical" / "study" (as a keyword) to the catalog search, you should be given texts that are considered "primary sources". This is not 100% accurate, but should get you in the high 90's for accuracy of finding primary sources. A primary sources is usually considered the text or a translation of a text without commentary. The commentary itself is a secondary source. The Bible your read is a primary text. The notes on the bottom of the page, or a commentary, are secondary sources. Your instructor may be even more nuanced about the distinction between primary and secondary, e.g. primary is only original language.
