ENG 101 ENGLISH COMP AND GRAMMAR: News Sources - Fake News

Reason for Page

Dec. 2016 (updated May. 2018) - The current climate about news and what is accurate demands that we, as consumers of news, must read with a critical eye. The concept of "fake news" or "disinformation" is not new; it has been a political/military ploy for ages. The intentionality of the producers of the fake news differs, but the results are that people accept falsehoods as truth and then go about their life being "enlightened" by a lie. A life and decisions based on falsehoods is a scary concept.

Please take a look at the graphic below (the attribution is below the image) and think about your source for news. All of us have biases (political and religious) and so do the producers of news. Our task is to know our bias, know the bias of others, and read outside our bias. If we only read from our perspective, we bury ourselves in stories that only affirm our skewed beliefs and do not learn anything.
